RCR10: Rachael Stedman

Region Collegiate Representative (RCR): Rachael Stedman

As RCR, Rachael helps SWE sections in Region F be the best they can be. She can connect you with the best people to help you start a new section, revive a struggling one, or get funding to make your great section even better. All of your section’s communications with national SWE is through Rachael, who takes your opinions and reports to national SWE, and brings their new ideas back to you.

A little more about Rachael:

Rachael Stedman is working toward her Electrical and Computer Engineering degree at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering. Rachael joined SWE her freshman year as the student Logistics Committee head for Olin’s first hosting of the Regional Conference. As Communications Officer, she led the development of a curriculum in which 7th and 8th graders learn about engineering by building Rube Goldberg machines and as President of her section, helped initiate a Women in Innovation lecture series at Olin. When she is not busy with SWE, Rachael enjoys dancing with Babson Dance Ensemble, reading, and playing around with Inkscape.

RCNE10: Kuan Cheng

RCNE10: Kuan Cheng

Region Collegiate Newsletter Editor (RCNE): Kuan Cheng

You can think of the RCNE as a sort of vice-RCR. Kuan works with Rachael to help and serve the SWE sections in Region F. The most important of her roles is to enable communication in the region via this blog, the SWE Region F Blog. The term “Newsletter Editor” is a historical term that stems from when SWE Regions had newsletters that were delivered to all the members in that section. We have since moved to the blog you see here, which Kuan updates with news from both national SWE and Region F.

A note from Kuan:

“Hi!
I am so excited to be your RCNE this year. My goal is to keep the all of you updated on what is helping throughout the region and at the national level. But I don’t want this to just be a bulletin board where we post information; I want this to be a forum where SWE members in the region to get involve and interact with each other. If you’re reading this note, you’ve found the blog! I hope you keep checking back. I’ll make sure there’s always something interesting here waiting for you to read!
~Kuan Cheng”

Senator FY10: Katherine Kuan

Senator10: Katherine Kuan

Region Collegiate Senator (Senator): Katherine Kuan

The senate is a newly formed body within SWE’s governing structure that gives a greater voice to the sections. This new structure gives collegiates 30 percent of the vote, a huge increase over the previous system. As the Region F’s first collegiate senator, Katherine will be representing your opinion on major issues such as bylaw motions and amendments. She will also be involved in trying to address some mega-issues that concern SWE, such as, “What will be the impact of the changing demographics of the engineering workforce?”

A note from Katherine:

“My name is Katherine Kuan. I am currently a Masters of Engineering student at MIT, and just finished a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science last June at MIT as well. I’ve had the opportunity to see engineering in action while working at places such as Microsoft Research, Cisco Systems, and UCLA. I hope to apply my degrees one day to a software engineering career in mobile technologies for healthcare. My membership in SWE began freshman year in college. Having served as webmaster, VP of Corporate Relations, and President of our MIT SWE section, I have had the amazing pleasure of meeting and working with a extraordinarily accomplished and dedicated women. I have truly seen the support and opportunities SWE has offered to its members, and believe that I can serve as an effective advocate to bring SWE’s members closer to the organization.”
